Ecocamp, Glenshee

pods

In May we spent two nights in pods the Ecocamp site in Glenshee near Blairgowrie in Perthshire.

“A wooden tent” is how the owner describes his pods and you can’t argue. The pods are high enough to stand up in, they won’t blow away and have electric heating, lighting and a window with glorious views of the Glen and their three resident Llamas. It’s quite a special location to spend a few days with friends, dog walking, mountain biking, skiing etc. There’s a communal bothy with kitchen and log burner, a toilet/shower block and a large yurt which can sleep 6.

We’d been invited for a birthday weekend so had booked out all five of the wooden pods as well as the yurt, while a few guests pitched their own tents. The yurt became the adult hang out with a roaring log burner while the teens fired up their music in the bothy and glared at any adult who dared cross the threshold to grab a snack from the fridge.

When asked what there is to do for kids, the owner looks around, gestures to the mountains, and offers a straightforward reply: “Everything. Or nothing. It’s totally up to you!”

Believe me, there’s everything to do.
