No 1: La Cuchetta (Dormeletto, Lake Maggiore, Northern Italy)
Our best ever find on Booking.com! This family room is above a stable on an equestrian estate above Lake Maggiore. There cannot be many B&Bs in Europe with their own tame Zebra. Breakfast rolls and bread are baked fresh on site each morning.
If you like horses (and chihuahuas), this just might be heaven on earth,
No.2 : Auberge Campagnarde, Evosge (Ain, Eastern France)
Beautiful, remote village setting near the Swiss border, pool and mini-golf, superb restaurant where all the locals dine.
No.3: Agriturismo Al Marnich (Lake Como. Italy)
A working farmhouse high up along a single track lane in the hills above Lake Como (although it doesn’t quite have views of the lake). Individual cottages for each family, with kids upstairs and adults downstairs. Fantastic, very memorable restaurant with local Lombardy seasonal specialties, much of it grown here. Perfect holiday destination for foodies and cycling lovers.
No.4: Pousada Estremoz, Portugal
Our kids absolutely loved rocking up to this baronial castle and sleeping in it. Stacked with antiques and history and although the facilities like the bathrooms could be rejuvenated, the grand atmosphere is simply wonderful. Their medieval restaurant is superb too.
