Queen’s Hotel Perth

queensA Scottish city break in Perth

In 2014 we visited Best Western Queen’s Hotel (3 Star) in Perth which is conveniently located with its own parking right in the city centre. The very friendly staff were efficient and welcoming especially with the kids which was lovely. The little kids welcome pack produced on arrival proved popular through supper and beyond. The hotel has a pool, hot tub and gym which we enjoyed after our excursions.

Our evening meals were unexpectedly excellent, with really well-cooked food enjoyed by parents and children alike. In fact our eldest said it was the best spaghetti bolognese ever, unusually for a kids meal it was nicely flavoured but not too much to put them off.

Overall, the Best Western Queens Hotel plusses are all because of its staff, who obviously care. All the staff were superb and nothing was too much trouble, A DVD player and movies were found as well as jigsaws and books for later and a heated cup of milk for our 3 year old was no bother. The hotel itself could probably do with a bit of investment but our room, with its four beds and a tv was basic and clean. It was a handy base to explore Perthshire. Our view is that this is a hotel doing the very best with what it’s got.

Nearby activities

Perthshire scenery is glorious and there’s lots to do outdoors in summer like walking, mountain biking as it really is a centre for outdoor adventures. Call Adventure Perthshire Hotline on 01887 829010 for more information and prices.

For a more peaceful time try Loch Earn near Comrie which is nice for a family picnic and throwing stones. We particularly enjoyed Comrie’s Auchingarrich Wildlife Park with its Meerkats, Marmosets, Llamas, tame farm animals and a couple of very friendly Lemurs. Though the hatchery went down best with the youngest as they are allowed to handle the baby chicks and rabbits. We liked the Prairie Dog best as he is allowed to roam wherever he wants because they have given up trying to cage him in. He just pops up in any animal enclosure whenever he wants. www.auchingarrich.co.uk

For rainy days, Perth has a big swimming pool and ice rink as well as Softplays Noah’s Ark and Squirrel Play Land.
